The
Orchard Park Fire District Explorers Post 288 recently has registered
with the Boy Scouts of America and sign up is now open to boys
and girls ranging in the ages of fourteen (14) through twenty-one
(21). The program opens the door for area youths interested in
the fire and rescue service by providing a training program centered
on The Essentials of Firefighting,
all volunteer firefighters must complete this course to become
members of the department. Further training is also offered beyond
the fire service to enhance the member’s life skill development. The
training will be conducted by experienced firefighters and emergency
medical personal. This training is targeted with a strong emphasis
on safety; members will gain knowledge of responsibility, be
trained in leadership skills, and, learn the importance of teamwork
through classroom and hands-on activities. Members will participate
in several department events such as, weekly drills, live burns,
and on occasion, be called upon to support the department with
large incidents if needed.
Throughout
its affiliation with the Boy Scouts of America; the
explorers are also eligible to attend events and activities sponsored
by the BSA. The post meets every 1st and 3rd Monday
evening at 7:00 pm at the Orchard Park Central fire hall, 30
School Street, Orchard Park, New York.
